The evaluation assessed AfDB performance, achievements, and lessons across African countries. It examined why strong renewable-energy strategies did not always translate into implementation. Limited transmission, distribution, finance, institutional capacity, and predictable regulation remained major constraints. More

The session addressed urban congestion, infrastructure maintenance, regional connectivity, emissions, and unequal access. It asked how transport investment across African cities and corridors can become more resilient, inclusive, and system-oriented. More

Horst Wattenbach presented evaluation evidence on public support for thermal renovation of existing buildings. The work examined programmes in Poland and Bulgaria and considered both mitigation and social objectives. Existing buildings were emphasized because new construction replaces only a small share of the building stock each year. Evaluators compared predicted energy savings with consumption after rehabilitation. Weather differences were adjusted through degree-day correction. More

Future Ecosystems for Africa (FEFA) showcased a series of presentations highlighting African-led science and policy solutions for climate, biodiversity, and sustainable development. The session introduced the Six Principles for getting Natural climate solutions right in Africa, outlining how climate action can better support both people and nature. More

At COP30, Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), the International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie) and the German Institute for Development Evaluation (DEval) convened a session on how evaluative evidence can strengthen sustainable energy policy, planning and investment. More

The event explored how systematic evaluations of NDC 2.0 implementation informed evidence-based decision-making and guided the update of NDC 3.0. The session was rooted in DEval´s policy brief Targets without Traction, which highlighted a malalignment between international climate finance and NDC targets. Expert speakers shared insights and lessons learned, including on how to embed evaluation into NDC processes as a strategic tool for strengthening climate policy, tracking progress effectively, and helping to avoid past shortcomings across NDC cycles.
